It's one of those titles that covers a lot of products, as stands find their way into many different areas of live sound and music production, and so are available in a wide variety of shapes, styles and designs to fulfill all manner of needs.
Starting with stands in the traditional sense, a range of speaker stands in either fixed or adjustable height which allow you to place your PA speakers off the floor and at head height for optimum sound projection, and the added benefit of lifting them out the way of prying children's hands and people using them as a place to put drinks. Different levels of quality and strength are available to suit the type of system you are using, as obviously a pair of 10” speakers for home party use do not require the same level of durability, weight handling and safety features of stands used for say a pro level 15” active system.
Lighting stands often use similar base and pole systems to speaker units, but will include a top piece for suspending your effects. This can be a single stand type T bar , or a larger two stand straight bar system which can be used as a booth front or band backdrop.
They also come in a fixed booth type design, which offers a large desktop framework for your Dj equipment to go on, with a pole mounted T bar across the top giving you a complete light and sound workstation.
Lights and effects units are fixed to these bars using G clamps and steel safety wires, and allow you to experience your lighting at the correct working heights while being perfectly safe for use in and around the public.
Microphone stands in singular pole or twin pole that are angle adjustable give plenty of options for different placements and situations, be it for live band use or static studio, with short weighted base designs for desktop recording. Microphone placement is critical to their use, and a stand gives the necessary angle and height setting along with stability to avoid movement related noise.
Musical instruments are also looked after, with keyboard stands, guitar floor stands and ceiling hangers, and also traditional sheet music stands that are adjustable for sitting or standing performances.
For the modern Dj using digital media there are a good range of custom laptop risers and platforms. For the stage performer or presentation there are standing height floor units giving you a stable working base, or there are desktop risers designed to float your laptop above the mixer or media controller, allowing it to be right where you want it without getting in the way.
Accessories allow you to get multiple uses from one stand, such as mounting plates for display screens, singular fixing adapters for lighting effects, and fabric scrims and covers for both scenery blending at events such as weddings, and for giving you the ability to create lighting features within a covered stand for a subtle yet effective look.
