Atmospheric effects units, the secret weapon of the nightclub and stage show entertainment industries for years, they simply provide what no other item or device can.
The trick to any immersive event or show is to make people less aware of their immediate surroundings, which frees up the mind of all the extra information they would normally be taking in and allows them to enjoy what's happening right in front of them. It's like an old magician's technique of distraction.
Be it a theatre, nightclub, or a Dj doing the local social club, the idea is the same, using the effect as an airborne curtain to envelop the space, making it less recognisable and disguising the general layout which creates a unique space within a space. It's amazing how many people won't get up and dance at a party for fear of being visible to the entire room, but will be up like a shot if there's smoke and lasers ! It's all about perception, and making people let go for those 5 minutes.
Smoke and fog effects also perform another major function for any performance event, and that is to block natural light and create a physical floating screen for your lighting effects to display onto and through. This is especially important when using multi-coloured beam units and moving head systems, which give their most impressive show when the atmosphere is smoke laden enough for the units to focus and have definition to their line and shape output. This also gives far better depth of colour across the spectrum and ensures you are getting the very best from your lamp and LED based effects.
Lasers and smoke go hand in hand, to the point where realistically a smoke or fog machine should be considered a necessity for any laser unit purchase.
A laser beam is unique in that external light sources, be they artificial or natural, will not alter the form or definition of the emitted lightbeam. It will stay true until it hits something that will either end its travel or reflect it in a new direction. The problem is, these impervious beams are projected at certain frequencies and power ratings which make them hard to see in open light due to the way our eyesight functions. We can see the end of the beams, on a wall, floor or ceiling as it's a focussed point, but will struggle to see the actual beams, which obviously isn't much use for creating a display.
Smoke to the rescue !
As with the standard lighting, the addition of smoke or fog vapor from a suitably powerful machine into the air will give the laser light the visual contrast our eyes require to see them in all their vivid splendour. Its an especially drastic transformation with laser, and the correct use of smoke and mirror placements can create a truly stunning beam display even from the more modestly priced units. It's not all smoke and mirrors though Sometimes it's just about silly fun, and everyone loves bubbles ! From children's parties to weddings, a bubble machine always brings smiles to a crowd. There is just something eternally fascinating about bubbles no matter what age you're at, and a professional machine can fill a room or hall with its powerful blowers and wheels, providing a non stop stream of bubbles into the air for people to pop, chase and catch to their hearts content.
Working on a similar premise, a snow and foam machine will blanket an area in a safe dissolvable foam, a thin dusting for a classic winter snow effect, or if left on continuous it will create a thick foam layer. This will spark nostalgia in anyone that was going to clubs in the late 1990s as the ‘foam party’ was a monthly event at many venues ! It's a great effect to have at your disposal, and can be used for scenery decoration, winter themed weddings, and can be used both indoors and out.
Staying with weddings and 90s club nights, for the ultimate in room filling fun has to be the confetti cannon. It can cover a crowd with its silliness at a huge throw distance, and unlike liquid based effects, is guaranteed not to upset or offend anyone. The system in our range is unique to the cannon market as its fan driven, so unlike most units on the market it requires no CO2 or compressed air refills to function, and it will accept most types of industrial confetti or its own custom refill packs.
