Portable PA Systems
The portable sound system market has expanded hugely in the last decade, going from what were cumbersome, ugly, and undesirable boxes, to the ultra sleek and stylish units available today.
Portability and durability has become paramount, as have the onboard features and sound quality. The market has demanded that these systems move on from the basic, almost DIY origins of the past and provide the user with equipment that is easy to fit into their daily lives, and is actually enjoyable to own and use rather than just being a means to an end.
The uses for a self contained audio delivery system are vast, and a need presents itself in everything from fitness studios, public speaking or performance, presentations, wedding speeches, and the entertainments industry including singing, solo musicians, karaoke and talent events.
These highly portable pieces of equipment can be set up and ready to use in minutes, making them perfect for so many situations.
Ranging from a modest 20 watts, up to an enormous 800 watts output, these modern portable systems use inbuilt digital class D amplifiers which are lightweight, have low power consumption and are highly efficient, meaning they can be used consistently for long periods without issue, providing clear and powerful audio output through the units 2 or 3 way speaker drivers, which can vary in size from an ultra compact 6 inch up to serious performance sized 15 inch for the main speaker unit, depending on what spec of system you choose.
Also built into these modern units are active mixers for music playback and microphone connections, along with effects like reverb and echo for vocals, and eq adjustments either in the form of control knobs, sliders, or stored factory presets. Many have display screens for the mp3 playback, and feature AM/FM radios.
Direct connection of musical instruments without the need for additional boxes is perfect for a keyboard or guitar to plug straight in, and allows the system to be an all in one solution for the solo performer or busker, with certain models offering the extra flexibility of battery powered operation, meaning it can go with you to the park, garden party, street show and be completely untethered.
USB and SD card inputs capable of playing digital music files negates the need for traditional cd players for your music source, allowing mp3 files to play directly from a memory stick. Inputs for external sound sources are also provided should you require them.
Many of the latest systems also include bluetooth connectivity for wireless audio streaming direct from your mobile phone, and also feature wireless microphones, offering you a completely cable free operation.
Construction and cabinet quality comes from cast ABS resin enclosures which give lightweight, but solid damage protection from knocks and drops, and also allow pull up trolley style handles and wheels to be permanently attached. Traditional wooden shelled units are available still on specific models, though the ABS units have seemingly taken over this market due to the significant weight savings it makes.
