I've been singing at gigs for approx 24 years and I'm really fussy when it comes to microphones. As a singer I know there's nothing worse than not been able to hear yourself and/or have a mic that sounds flat, dull and lifeless when your on stage. Having a good microphone makes you confident when you sing, which is the key to a good performance.
When Paul lent me the JTS and told me it was only £30 to buy I didn't really hold out much hope of it been a good mic, to be honest. You even got a lead with it that are usually about a tenner to buy themselves! So, in my mind, it was a 20 quid mic. How was that going to sound good?
I tried the JTS at the gig I performed that night. I sound checked it first, of course, and was really suprised how instantly 'nice' it sounded. Throughout the gig it felt like the mic was really performing. My voice was clear without been sharp, it had a warmth to the bottom end too (always important!) and there was not even a hint of feedback. After the gig a few friends commented how good it had all sounded tonight. "Yeah, Ive got a new mic", I said. Result!
My SM58 and AKG have stayed in my gig bag since and Ive not even contemplated using them.
The JTS is a great mic for beginners to professionals alike. It would be a good mike if it was £120 but at £30 a pop its an unbelievable bargain. Highly recommended!
